Draft Masterplan


NIUPLAN preparation process which begun in November, 2012 is now nearing completion.

On May 27, 2014 The Draft NIUPLAN (download) was presented to high level stakeholders at City Hall, Nairobi (photos). This is a culmination of an intensive plan preparation process spurning over 18 months and involving a multiplicity of stakeholders both at national and county level and with support from JICA.

H.E. the Governor, Dr. Evans Kidero committed to full implementation of the Master Plan once finalized. On the same day, he awarded City’s Primary School Children who participated in a Drawing & Essay Contest dubbed, ‘My Dream Nairobi City’s as part of Public Participation and Consultation Process (Sample Essays and Artworks).

On June 5, 2014, Nairobi City County published a Notice (download) inviting interested person(s) and parties to visit the offices of Chief Officer, Urban Planning and Housing to inspect and submit comments on the Draft Plan. This inspection period will run for 30 days and close on July 5, 2014.

Following is a summary of the next steps to finalization of NIUPLAN;

  • Inspection of Integrated Urban Development Master Plan (Final Draft report)  (ongoing) June 5- July 5, 2014
  • Disclosure workshop for Draft Final Report/Strategic Environmental Assessment  Draft Final Report
  •  Finalization of the  Draft Final Report with additional comments from public               
  • Validation workshop for finalized  Draft Final Report/SEA  Draft Final (within the month of July 2014)
  • Approval of the Integrated Urban Development Master planby the County Cabinet and County Assembly
  • Publish Approved Plan in the county gazette and local newspaper
